Frequently Asked Questions
Is permanent makeup painful?
Everybody has different levels of pain tolerance, but most clients are completely relaxed and comfortable during their PMU service. You may feel slight discomfort, but the finished results far outweigh this. You may take acetaminophen (Tylenol) prior to your appointment, but not aspirin or ibuprofen. We use a numbing agent to keep our clients as comfortable as possible throughout the procedure. Some clients have even napped during their PMU session!
Can I get permanent makeup, brow stain or lamination services while pregnant?
Permanent cosmetics are not safe for women who are pregnant or nursing.
How long does it last?
Client's individual skin type plays the biggest role in color retention, longevity and the general outcome of the procedure. Oily skin types may heal softer while drier skin types may heal more crisp and defined. Darker pigments tend to last longer. Proper UVA/UVB protection will prevent color from fading as quickly in sunny climates.
Will I need a touch up after my initial appointment? How long will my new brows last?
Most clients require two sessions to have their brows perfected. NOTE: touch up for your ombre powder brows must be done no later than 5-6 weeks after the initial application to ensure color longevity and is the client's responsibility to do so. Ideally, we encourage clients to schedule that before they leave their initial appointment to secure their slot. Clients with fuller brows or clients who prefer a lighter, more demure look may not require a touch up. Annual Color Boosts (touch ups) are highly recommended for those who want maintain fresh looking results.
Do you use clean needles?
Every client gets a new, sterile single use needle. You will see the needles being removed from their sterile packaging at the beginning of your session. Upon completion of each session, the used needle is disposed of in a Sharps container which is then picked up by the Biomedical Waste Program per Florida state law. Vanou's Brows & Things is fully licensed and insured, having met all the requirements for aesthetic and health tattoo services. VB&T is also certified in blood borne pathogens.
How long is the appoinment?
For either ombre powder brows or lip blush, we reserve up to 3 hours for your initial PMU appointment to ensure excellent results. Touch up sessions are generally an hour or less. NOTE: tattooing time varies for each client.
What can I expect during my initial appointment?
Both ombre powder brow and lip blush services must start with the mapping process. Each client has features unique to them, and our goal is to enhance your natural brow arch, lip shape, etc. Clients are part of this process. Once the desired shape is decided upon, the outline will be drawn with the tattoo pen. After that, a numbing agent is applied to keep clients as comfortable as possible as the color is filled in.
What can I expect during the initial healing process?
Both your brows and lips will heal 40-50% lighter after the initial appointment; THIS IS NORMAL. Your brows and lips will take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to heal (individual time frames vary). Peeling is part of the healing process, but don't pick at them! Follow your take home aftercare instructions to the letter.
Can I book if I am diabetic or on blood thinners?
Diabetic patients may book a permanent makeup session with us provided your diabetes is under control and treated by your physician. Clients taking blood thinner medications must stop taking them 48 hours prior to your appointment.
Are there any pre-appointment precautions I should take?
Please be advised of the following instructions prior to any permanent makeup session:
-
Stop using any skin thinners (e.g. retinols, Vitamin A, glycolic acids, exfoliation) around the brow or lip area 2 weeks prior to your scheduled appointment
-
DO NOT consume any alcohol or caffeine 48 hours prior to your appointment- both substances can thin your blood, leading to excessive bleeding during the treatment, which can hinder the pigment implantation and result in poor healing and uneven color retention.
-
You may come in with your brows drawn how you usually like them; our expert PMU artist will use this to work with you to conceptualize how your final results will look
-
LADIES: You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around your menstrual cycle
-
Cosmetic fillers (such as Botox) should be done 3-4 weeks before or after your PMU appointment
-
We will not be able to tattoo over any blemishes, sores or moles in or around the brow area
